Homemade Veggie Spray

A 2012 study shows how pesticides and chemicals used to grow vegetables and fruits could be putting kids at risk for developing several types of cancers. While others studies show that small amounts of these same pesticides and chemicals can’t be harmful unless consumed in large amounts. There are hundred of studies regarding pesticides and chemicals that contradict each other. So who should you believe?

What we know to be a fact is that fruits and vegetable are covered in chemicals and pesticides. What is in question is if they are in fact harmful for consumption. Well I don’t know about you but I don’t think there is any chemical that is safe once it’s consumed so why risk the health of your family. But what can we do to protect ourselves? Well we can buy organic but that sometimes is too pricey. The next best thing would be to buy over the counter vegetable and fruit sprays but since they can also be costly then we will just have to make our own.

Fruit and Vegetable Spray Cleaner

Clean Veggies

Here is what you will need:

  • 1 Cup of Water
  • 1 Cup of White Vinegar
  • 1 Tablespoon of baking soda
  • 3 Tablespoon Lemon Juice
  • Spray bottle

The way you combine the ingredients is actually very important. You don’t want to just mix everything together because it can cause a mini explosion that can leave you with a not so mini mess. Make sure you wash the spray bottle very well before you start. Once the bottle has been washed pour the water and white vinegar into your spray bottle and mix very well. Then start scooping in the baking soda, do this step slowly. You will notice that the vinegar water will being to fuzz. Once all the baking soda is poured in then tightly close the bottle and shake. Add you lemon juice and shake one more time. Then release the gas by opening up your spray bottle then close it back up.

It’s a lot easier than it sounds. It’s basically pouring and shaking in between pourings.

This super easy DIY fruit and vegetable spray only cost me $2 to make. You can buy a spray bottle at any dollar tree store or 99 cent store. The white vinegar also only cost me a buck at Ralphs and I already had baking soda and water at home.
